The peck deck fly (also called the machine chest fly) is an isolation exercise that targets the pectoralis major muscles. It is performed using a pec deck machine, which provides guided resistance and helps maintain proper form.
How to Perform the Peck Deck Fly
Adjust the Machine:
Set the seat height so that the handles are at chest level.
Adjust the arm pads so you feel a slight stretch in your chest when gripping the handles.
Grip & Posture:
Sit with your back firmly against the pad.
Keep your feet flat on the ground.
Hold the handles or pads with a neutral or pronated grip (depending on the machine).
Execution:
Exhale and slowly bring the handles together in front of your chest.
Squeeze your chest at the peak of the movement.
Inhale and slowly return to the starting position (arms spread wide) without letting the weights slam.
Muscles Worked:
Primary: Pectoralis Major
Secondary: Anterior Deltoid, Serratus Anterior
Benefits:
Great for chest isolation
Reduces strain on shoulders compared to dumbbell flys
Helps improve mind-muscle connection
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
Using excessive weight and sacrificing form
Not controlling the movement (jerking or bouncing)
Letting the elbows drop too low
